An introduction to CBD
What is CBD?
CBD (cannabidiol) is one of over a hundred naturally occurring compounds found in the leaves and flowers of the hemp and marijuana plants. Many people claim CBD helps them with a range of ailments, including anxiety, back pain and insomnia. Some women even use CBD products to help with symptoms associated with the pre-menstrual cycle and menopause.
Will CBD get me high?
CBD does not produce any psychoactive effects and will not induce a ‘high’. THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) is the cannabinoid responsible for the psychological effects commonly associated with taking marijuana. All 7 Leaf Health products are created using CBD sourced from hemp.
To give you complete peace of mind, our products are also independently tested to be 100% THC free.
How does CBD work?
CBD stimulates the body’s endocannabinoid system which plays a huge role in regulating functions and processes, including sleep, mood and pain management.
CBD binds to cannabinoid receptors CB1 and CB2, initiating a therapeutic physiological response.
- CB1 receptors are primarily located within the central nervous system. They are responsible for governing coordination, movement, pain, appetite, memory, mood and other functions.
- CB2 receptors are located within the peripheral nervous system, influencing pain and inflammation.
Endocannabinoids are produced naturally by our bodies to work with these receptors to relieve pain, reduce tension and relax our muscles. Cannabinoids, such as hemp-derived CBD oil are used to work with our bodies in the same way. How effectively CBD oil works varies from person to person depending on their individual physiology.
How long does CBD take to work?
How long it takes to feel the effects of CBD varies depending on a number of factors, including:
- The quality and potency of CBD
- How you take it, e.g. oil, edible or lotion
- Factors such as your weight, age and your metabolism level
Generally, you should start experiencing the therapeutic effects of CBD within 1-3 hours, but it can take more or less time depending on how you take it.
How much CBD should I take?
As CBD products are relatively new to the market, there aren’t any universal standards or dosing guidelines yet. The dosage and strength that is right for you depends on factors such as your body type, tolerance and the type of product you’re using. Simply said, what suits a person who weighs 55kg will not be the same for someone who is 120kg.
Most experts agree that you should start with the lowest dose and slowly work your way up over a number of weeks.
